New Mexico State University
New Mexico State University (NMSU) and its applied engineering arm, the Physical Science Laboratory (PSL), have operated the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technical Analysis and Applications Center (UAS TAAC) since 1999. The TAAC’s primary goal is the safe integration of UAS into global airspace.
The TAAC was formed to establish a planned program creating a UAS RDT&E facility and to build a UAS Center of Excellence, with a certification focus. The FAA and NMSU have established a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement that formalizes the establishment of a one-of-a-kind UAS Flight Test Center. Other offerings include:
•  Developing concepts of operation
•  Determining system requirements (UAS and payload)
•  Evaluating airworthiness
•  Evaluating manufacturer training; training operators
•  Developing standard operating procedures for UAS operations
•  Conducting UAS and payload demonstrations
•  Developing safety cases/obtaining flight authorization for global airspace
